An introduction to the literatures in translation of Latin American countries including at least three of the following: Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil. Emphasis on literature as an expression of culture. Satisfied the non-western requirement. 3 lecture hours; 0 lab hours per week.

Identify and discuss literary trends in Latin American literature. B. Identify cultural traits of different Latin American countries. C. Identify and discuss a writer's contribution to Latin American literatures. D. Compare and draw similarities with literatures from other countries. E. Analyze literature from a variety of perspectives using appropriate vocabulary. F. Create and support an argument in response to literary issues discussed in class.
