Hands on computer experience with simulated electronic medical record applications via internet access. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of how accounts receivable, billing, collections and medical office work flow are electronically performed.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to: A. Develop an understanding of using the electronic medical record in ambulatory care settings. B. Build a data base through entry of demographic and financial information. C. Demonstrate posting a variety of medical services with appropriately applied CPT/ICD codes. D. Demonstrate the ability to post an individual payment versus a batch payment using various scenarios such as partial payment, settlement, transferring the balance to the patient, rebilling the claim, transferring the balance to a secondary insurance. E. Perform patient scheduling, patient billing, as well as paper claims and electronic billing. F. Demonstrate how use of the electronic health record produces an audit trail.
