HORT 296 - Horticulture Business Management

The study of retail and wholesale horticultural business management. Field trips include local nurseries, greenhouses, garden centers, seed and equipment dealers. Emphasis is on financing, tax records, land purchase, and purchase, advertising, ownership, and small business practices. The course will include a case-study of a horticulture related business of student interest.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to: A. Identify specific types of retail, wholesale & specialty horticulture businesses. B. List current and future opportunities in horticulture business management. C. Complete financial statements for horticulture business. D. Prepare tax records/documents and accounting procedures for horticulture business. E. Discuss advertising and marketing skills for a horticulture businesses. F. Apply common practices regarding ownership of the business.
