Prerequisite: MATH 092 "C" or better. This is the second of two courses that are designed to be an alternative develop-mental mathematics path for students who plan to take general education mathematics and/or general education statistics. This course focuses on developing mathematical maturity through problem solving, critical thinking, data analysis, and the writing and communication of mathematics.
Textbook information is available at http://www.bhc.edu/on-campus/bookstore/ You will need to know the BHC course number, e.g., BL 201, and the section number.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to: A. Demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of functions and apply this knowledge in modeling and problem solving. B. Perform operations on expressions and functions and make use of those operations in modeling and problem solving. C. Solve equations in the context of modeling and problem solving. D. Represent mathematical information symbolically, visually, numerically, and verbally. E. Estimate and check answers to mathematical problems in order to determine reasonableness, identify alternatives, and select optimal results. F. Use mathematically correct vocabulary and symbolism to communicate orally- and in writing- problem statements, problem-solving methods, and interpretations of the solutions to problems.
