ENG 214 - Modern American Literature

ENG 214 is a survey of representative works illustrating the development of American Literature from the Civil War to the present with an emphasis on major literary movements understood in relation to their intellectual, social, and political contexts. Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to demonstrate the following skills: A. Analyze works of American literature in terms of the myths that shape American culture and identity B. Analyze works of American literature in terms of their intellectual, social, and political concerns C. Appraise works of American literature in terms of their literary and artistic qualities D. Compare and contrast elements of various periods and movements in American literature
