SPEC 210 - Persuasion & Argumentation
Examines the principles of reasoning, critical thinking, argumentation, and advocacy and their expression in a variety of media. Students will develop an understanding of how arguments function to influence attitudes, values, and behaviors in our public culture with an emphasis on the nature of argument, proofs and evidence, constructing arguments, fallacies of argument, and the use of logical and persuasive reasoning.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to demonstrate the following skills: A. Implement the ancient origins of persuasion to today’s world B. Demonstrate familiarity with various forms of persuasion C. Demonstrate the use of logic and evidence to engage a proposition D. Recognize and identify valid and invalid forms of arguments E. Distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate persuasive appeals F. Demonstrate use of critical thinking and issue analysis
