This is a beginning organic chemistry course for non-chemistry majors and is designed for those students majoring in disciplines requiring only one semester of organic chemistry. It provides a survey of basic concepts of aliphatic and aromatic compounds and their applications.
General , Organic and Biological Chemistry or General College Chemistry I (HCC Courses Chem 120 or Chem 123)
eb access through an ISP, current web browser/Netscape 4.01 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher. ISIS draw program (free from www.mdli.com), Real One (free from www.real.com and included on the video CD), sound card with speakers, Word Viewer, word processing software and a draw program like Paint.
There are 4 cumulative examinations. The exams contain a multiple choice component and a short answer component. The exams are all open book. Students have 24 hours from the time the scheduled examination is posted to complete the exam.
Students will also be required to purchase a course video CD -- The CD will have to purchased from the HCC bookstore at a cost of $5.00 to the student. The HCC bookstore can be contacted at 815/599-3449 for more information.
