CD 100 - Intro to Early Childhood

General overview of the history, the present and future outlook of early childhood education. Students study types of early childhood programs, develop techniques and observational skills of working with young children and families, and investigate early childhood career paths.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to: A. Analyze current trends and issues in early childhood as they reflect the historical roots of early childhood education. B. Identify and describe professional responsibilities, ethics and career options in the field of early childhood. C. Compare and contrast the various kinds of child care/preschool programs available within the community. D. Identify developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum and environments that meet the needs of diverse populations in early childhood. E. Connect the primacy of the family and other significant adults to the development of the young child. F. Discuss state and federal rules and regulations as they impact early childhood programs. G. Connect current research to the field of Early Childhood Education. H. Explain importance of education and training to various careers in Early Childhood Education. I. Synthesize and analyze information gathered through observation of early childhood programs.
