SPEC 175 - Intercultural Communications

This course examines how culture influences the communication process including values, beliefs, norms, linguistic and nonverbal differences between cultures, cultural bias, ethnocentrism, globalization, and cultural adjustment. The course will review major theories of intercultural communication and the practical approaches to communicating more effectively with personas from other cultures.

Beginning Fall 2017, Speech 175 courses will be using an Open Source (free textbook) and other reading materials provided in the course.
Course IAI Code: MC 904 Number/Type of tests: 2 Unit Exams (tests taken at home – open note, open book). 1 Proctored Final Exam (taken on campus or in proctored testing environment). Tests include a number of question types ranging from multiple choice and short paragraph response. In addition to weekly discussion assignments, students will complete two unit projects (Unit 1 and Unit 2). The project for Unit 3 is combined with the weekly Discussion assignments.
